Kitchen Chalkboard

I love chalkboard paint. I want to put it on so many things in my home, and have to talk myself out of it. I did make a chalkboard in my kitchen:

These are the pine boards that I sanded, stained, and coated with polyurethane to frame the chalkboard.

Here is my chalkboard! It is 5 1/2 feet tall and 5 feet wide.
I'm happy with how it turned out. Now, I'm on the search for a storage table to go under it.

Science Project with Daddy

Daddy started a science project with K this evening:

I had to make a quick trip to Hobby Lobby. Daddy and K decided to come with me. While I was looking for my items Daddy found this Crystal Growing project. He decided it would be a good experiment for him and K. So, here is the start of the project:

Daddy reading the directions.

Now we wait 48 hours to see how big they grow!
I will do an update at the end of the 48 hrs.

Bad start to 2015

Okay, I hope my year does not go like the first day of this year. I woke up to tickles and hugs from my son & hubby. Then my husband told me he wanted to knock some stuff off his Honey - Do - List  this morning. He hung some curtain rods in the kitchen for me for an upcoming DIY project, and then went into the garage to move my vintage china cabinet into the dining room. I wanted to move my china cabinet into the dining room to help me decide what color to paint it. It takes me forever to decide on a paint color, and having the china cabinet in a place that I look at everyday seemed like a smart thing to do in hopes that it will speed up my decision making. This is when things went bad for me. I went outside to help move the cabinet. My husband and I grabbed the hutch, I took one step and felt a horrible pain crawl from my lower back right up to my right shoulder blade! We put the hutch down immediately. I pulled a muscle in my back and couldn't even stand back up. Ugh!! I've moved heavy furniture several times. I know how to move heavy things safely. Yet for some reason I put patience & safety aside for the easy thought of simply " get it done ". Needless to say, I got nothing done today, because I was laying on the couch for the remainder of the day with a heating pad and ibuprofen. Not a good start to the new year.

Repainted the Learning Tower

I repainted K's Learning Tower a couple weeks ago. I originally used acrylic paint, but it did not hold up against all the cleaning that the tower required. This time I used a BM semi-gloss, and covered it with polyurethane twice!

This is what it used to look like after I got done sanding it.

One side painted in a soft brown color, to match the kitchen.

K uses this learning tower almost every day! It is such a nice thing to have if you have a toddler and love to do activities in the kitchen! Here it is finished. It's hard to see in this picture, but I'm so glad I got this done. He's probably going to get another 3 years of good use out of it! Love this thing!

Happy New Years Eve!!!

Happy New Years! We are celebrating by making our own pizza's tonight! K has been asking to do this for a couple weeks now:

The action shots were a little difficult to capture!

K's pizza!

K helped Mommy & Daddy make their pizzas!

Daddy's pizza!

Mommy's pizza! We made a total of 5 small pizzas!
We also added sliced olives after they came out of the oven.
K really enjoyed being a chef for the evening. We will definitely be doing this again!
Happy New Years!

Playing with Christmas Toys

K has been playing with his new toys the last couple days:

Daddy set up K's crane the day after Christmas!
This crane has provided hours of fun!

This is Johnny the Skull Skill & Action Game! It is a projected light that appears on your walls and the player must shoot it with the gun, but you only have a small window of time before it stops and appears somewhere else...you have to catch it. It must be played in the dark of course.

K has enjoyed this math game too. It has a huge set of dice. He is still too young for math so we look for numbers.

K received a Christmas card from Grandpa in the mail today. We took him to Target where he selected these games for his Christmas & Birthday presents from Grandpa!

He LOVES them!

One more precious moment from Christmas Day

Santa brought K a light that is on a head band. On Christmas Day, K turned the light on and put it on his head. Then walked over to the fireplace and said" Santa?....Santa?". He was using the light to look up the chimney to see if he could see Santa. He wanted to make more cookies for Santa in hopes that he would come back.
